9th December 2008

WOLLONGONG GFC CHRISTMAS BBQ 2008

Saturday the 6th of December greeted us with a beautiful sunrise and some high expectation of a great day . A  7.00 am start at the ramp saw Peter Childs with Khe Sahn and Aaron Bostock with Seafox preparing there boats for the onslaught of our junior and small fry members .With the Murphy family joining Pete on Khe Sahn and the Kernots joining the Bostocks aboard Seafox with Simon Kitchen and Simon Seivers aboard for moral support the challenge was on .Khe Sahn exits the harbour and heads north to spot X for his chance of a Snapper while Seafox heads south east for a shot at kings on the Islands .Well obviously this was neither a pointscore or tournament day with flat seas and temps starting to sweat last nights beverages out of me like a dripping tap . The lures hit the water and and baits already attracting the pickers , Khe sahn picks up a nice reddy and sammy the seal turns up not long after then the first lure gets hit and young Sam makes quick work of a undersize king , tags in and sent back Lures back in the water then 1 , 2 , 3 rods load up in quick succession Sam and Kai Grab there rods with some help from Simon and Simon and Rhiannon joins the battle for her first ever bluewater fish all fish are boated and high fives all round .  Lures back in the water and off they go again with Sam hard at it once again on yet another fish another rod goes off and our youngest member gets her turn , with the fish on board she sits in the gamechair for a photo and the king decided to spill a little blood on her shorts and her face has now turned a whiter shade of pale . Khe Sahn lets us know that another reddy was onboard anda little black marlin goes swimming under the boat . With action continuing for the next couple of hours all kids had achieved some great results then we put Joann on a rod for her first battle and she also came up trumps ,  by this stage Chantelle was not looking the best so a nice refreshing deckwash was just what the doctor ordered  . Sam then took it upon himself with a little help to give Simon a cool down and within seconds Simon was in the water having a swim just off Gap Island . Back on board and lures in we head back to the ramp. Some notable results were.

Heaviest fish …….Kai Bostock……3 kg Salmon

Most fish ……….. Sam Bostock…..15 kings and 2 salmon

Best table fish…… Scott Murphy….1.2kg snapper

First bluewater fish……...Rhiannon and Chantelle Kernot

By now we were back at the ramp where Geoff had arrived with refreshments and b.b.q. equipment ,  and lunch was now well under way , with some other members  now starting to join in the festivities a long afternoon was looking on the cards . Kids were enjoying a refreshing swim at the beach and parents just kicking back and enjoying the company . A Santa sack was found in the carpark with a note saying that he was to  busy to attend today however he had left  an elves hat and it suggested that I be recognized as an official Santas helper where childrens gifts were quickly distributed and well received by all .  the afternoon continued for sometime with some 25 members being present .I would like to personally thank Peter Childs and Aaron Bostock for making there boats available and to Geoff Plummer for organising food and drinks and most of all the kids and members who turned up to make it another great WGFC event .I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and there families

The merriest of Christmas and the happiest of New Years and may you all

Enjoy your time with your families .

Regards

Bob Kernot
