Wollongong Game Fishing Club's 2007 Tournament

 

Wollongong Game Fishing Club holds its meeting's every second Friday of the month starting at 7.30pm

Location Rydges Resort, Burelli Street Wollongong

 

About the Wollongong Game Fishing Club

 

WHERE IT BEGAN
The First committee meeting which was held at the Masonic Club Wollongong, on the 19th of January, 1968 at 7.55pm. Present at this meeting were George Bosley, John Brew, Alan Tilsley, Ted Middleton, Ian Whiteoak, Tim Browning and Norm Gerome.

 Business- At this meeting it was moved that the club adopted the constitution of the PortHacking G.F.C The Penant would be Red and White with a Marlin and a Lighthouse on it. The Joining Fee would be $ 8.00 per male member and @ 2.00 per female member and 50c per junior member.

Fishing Season- It would be the 1st Sunday in October and subsequently the 1st and 3rd Sunday’s in every month and finishing on the 3rd Sunday in june.

Fishing Times- It would be between 6.00am and 4.00pm.

Point Score- The pointscore adopted was the same as Sydney G.F.C and the Porthacking G.F.C for Sharks.

The Meeting closed at 11pm.

The First Trophy Night was a Dinner Dance which was held on the 22.6.1968 the Cost was $2.50 per head, and a 2 piece Orchestra to be engaged.

1/12/1969- Jack Barker was to organize the Construction of the Gantry to weigh in the fish, it was to be 16ft in height.

7/9/1971- Pointscore Changed to every 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month.

1970/71- Season the First Marlin was Captured in the Club.

26/9/72- All Public holidays to be included as Pointscore Days.

1971/72- Season was our First Excursion to Greenwell Point for the Shoalhaven G.F.C Competition.

13/11/73- Fishing days were changed back to every 1st and 3rd Sundays with Public Holidays.

29/9/74- Fishing days were changed to any Saturday or Sunday from Wollongong including Public Holidays.

7/10/75- Fishing days were changed to be the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.

3/12/76- Wollongong G.F.C is now part of the Southern Zone of N.S.W.G.F.A incorporating Shoalhaven, Batemans Bay, Canberra, Bermagui and Merimbula Clubs.

4/2/77- New Club Journal called the Gaff was Brought in from this meeting.

2/10/77- We adopted the N.S.W.G.F.A pointscore Factor System and we also adopted the Tag and Release Pointscore System.

8/10/77- Delete Grey Nurse Sharks as a pointscore fish.

2/12/79- 2nd Gantry to be erected at 9am on the 25th of August, 1979.

4/1/80- Sold old scales for $100 and bought 200kg scales for $300.

1/2/80- Wollongong’s Sportfishing Club and Wollongong’s G.F.C had their first                                 Challenge on the 23rd of April 1980.

4/7/80- Fees increased to $15.00 for all anglers.

1979/80 Season- Wollongong G.F.C went from being part of Southern Zone to being part of Central Zone incorporating Port Hacking, Botany Bay, Sydney and Broken Bay.

2005/06 Season- Club meeting are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Rydges Resort in Wollongong starting at 7pm.
